Siemens SITRANS LR100 is a compact 80 GHz radar level transmitter from Siemens for measuring the level of liquids and solids. Its narrow beam fits existing tank openings, and setup is done over Bluetooth with the SITRANS mobile IQ app. The series has 5 models with a maximum range of 10 to 30 meters.

Frequently asked questions

1. How is an 80 GHz radar different from an ultrasonic level sensor?

Radar uses electromagnetic waves, while ultrasonic uses sound waves, so ultrasonic is more often affected by vapor and temperature inside the tank. The 80 GHz radar has a narrow beam and installs easily in small openings.

2. Is the LR100 difficult to set up?

No. Use the free SITRANS mobile IQ app over Bluetooth to configure and check the device from a phone or tablet, without climbing the tank.

3. Can it connect to a PLC or display? What signal does it use?

Yes. Basic models provide a 4-20 mA output. Communicating models support HART or optional Modbus RTU (depending on model) to send data to a PLC or the cloud.

4. Which model should I choose?

For a range up to 10 m with basic 4-20 mA, choose the LR100 or LR140. For HART/Modbus or hazardous areas, choose the LR110 or LR150. For the longest range or flood protection, choose the LR120.

5. What power does it need? Can I use batteries or solar?

The LR100 series has very low power consumption and fast power-up, suited to battery and solar use in remote locations. For the supply voltage and power method of each model, check the datasheet or ask the GOT team.
